Anchorage,
Alaska [Thursday
August 10th and Friday August 11th]
We start our cruise in Anchorage, which is the
largest city in Alaska, and it's no accident many cruisetours begin
and end in this major metropolis. As locals say, "Anchorage is
great. It's only 20 minutes from Alaska." Here, you'll
find everything you would find in a city in the lower 48. But
it serves as a great introduction to Alaska, too.
While on Your Cruisetour
There's so much to do in Anchorage, you
could never capture it all. So cruisetours visiting
Anchorage usually provide guests with free time to explore
on their own. You might want to check out some of the
fun activities listed here, or perhaps discover something
new on your own. After all, independence is the true
spirit of Alaska.
Other Fun Things to Do
For a great introduction to native
Alaskan culture, visit the Alaska Native Heritage Center.
Opened in 1999, this wonderful, state-of-the-art center
features theaters, exhibitions, artists and artisans, a
smokehouse, a carving center, and traditional village
structures.
Head to Resolution Park for a
breathtaking view of the Talkeetnas and the snow-covered
Alaska Range.
Learn about the Northern Lights, oil
exploration, bears, and other local features at the
Imaginarium. This award-winning, hands-on science
center is great for kids and adults alike.
Seward,
Alaska [Departure
Point - Saturday August 12th - Departs 9 PM]
Seward is not only one of
Alaska's oldest communities, it's also one of its most
scenic. Visit and discover this picturesque town known as
the gateway to Kenai Fjords National Park. You'll find a
historic downtown district filled with quaint shops and art
galleries, and some of the most exciting outdoor adventures
imaginable.
The One Thing You
Don't Want to Miss
When you're in Seward,
don't miss the Alaska Sealife Center. It features beautiful
local marine life in its natural habitat. Visitors can learn
about the complex Alaskan ecosystem while enjoying the
antics of sea lions, otters and porpoises.
Other Fun Things to Do
Take the opportunity to
enjoy a trip on the Resurrection Bay Wildlife cruise where
you might see seals, sea otters, puffins and whales. Visit
Kenai Fjords National Park with easy access to the Exit
Glacier, which can be reached by foot once in the park.
Hubbard
Glacier [Cruising
- Sunday August 13th]
The longest river of ice in North
America, the Hubbard Glacier is also one of the most active glaciers
of its kind in Alaska. And since the ship is designed to
provide the best viewing possible, you'll be able to see this
massive natural wonder, with its 1,350 square miles of blue ice,
from just about anywhere on the ship.
The One
Thing You Don't Want to Miss
Wonder at 1,350 square
miles of translucent blue ice as you experience the
excitement of seeing an active glacier up close. Even
the ship will feel small.
Skagway,
Alaska [Monday
August 14th - Arrive 9 AM - Departs 9 PM]
When gold was discovered in the
Klondike region of the Yukon Territory (just across the border from
Alaska), it resulted in the historic Gold Rush of 1898. As thousands
of gold-crazed adventurers sought the best starting point for their
arduous trek, they found the deepest penetration possible by boat
was at the northern tip of the Lynn Canal. This is how Skagway was
born.
The One
Thing You Don't Want to Miss
A century ago, Dyea was a
thriving community of 10,000 gold stampeders heading up the
Chilkoot Trail to the Klondike. Now, nature has reclaimed
the land. Enjoy a guided tour that takes you on a 1 1/2
hour ride on flat, dirt roads around the historic site of Dyea.
You'll ride through the rain forest, visit historic ruins and
the Chilkoot trail-head. Then you'll head out on the
coastal tidal flats, where you'll view eagles, spectacular
wildflowers and gorgeous mountain scenery. Enjoy the
exercise and fresh Alaskan air.
Other
Fun Things to Do
Ride the world-famous White
Pass and Yukon Railroad and then visit a historic gold-rush
camp, where you can browse through cabins and tents that were
once used as a bakery and a saloon.
Take a helicopter ride away
from civilization to the Chilkat Glacier system, where frozen
rivers of ice surge between high mountain peaks.

most breathtaking valleys while horseback-riding through
historic Dyea.
Cruise to a remote beach at
Glacier Point, then get aboard a 31-foot canoe and explore
spectacular icebergs.
Take a helicopter to the
Valley of the Glaciers, where you'll land and hike across this
huge sheet of ice while your guide points out crevasses and
other features.

Juneau,
Alaska [Tuesday
August 15th - Arrive 7 AM - Departs 8 PM]
Juneau, the capital of Alaska, was founded during a gold rush in
1880. Today, the former gold-mining town counts among its riches
some of Alaska's most spectacular scenery. Nestled at the foot
of Mt. Juneau in the Alaska Panhandle, it faces the water from the
mainland side of Gastineau Channel. Several magnificent fjords are
located along the channel coast, and the majestic Mendenhall
Glacier, a favorite of visitors, is nearby.
The One
Thing You Don't Want to Miss
When you're in Juneau, you
shouldn't miss the amazing glacial landscape. The best
view available is from the seat of a helicopter on one of our
shore excursions, where you can watch for bear, mountain goats,
and moose. Then, once you've landed, we'll take you on a
once-in-a-lifetime dogsled ride.

Bay National Park. Home to a historic cannery, the port's connection
to the sea is strong. Locals share the sea with humpback whales,
orcas, Dall porpoises, seals, sea otters, halibut and all five
species of Pacific salmon. It is not uncommon to spot a humpback or
an orca while walking along the shore.

Ketchikan,
Alaska [Thursday
August 17th - Arrive 1 PM - Departs 8 PM]
Ketchikan originated as an Indian fish saltery, but the town's major
growth began when it became a supply base and entry port for miners
during the 1898 Gold Rush to the Klondike. Much of the town's
colorful past is still in evidence, especially in the nearby Indian
villages, where you'll see colorfully carved totem poles and hear
the fascinating legends that surround them.
The One
Thing You Don't Want to Miss
While fishing is by far the
most popular sport in Ketchikan, there are a lot of other
activities for people to take part in. In fact, one of the best
ways to see the area and enjoy the scenery is simply to take a

can explore the history of totem poles and see some terrific
examples.

fishing boat and, if you'd like, we can even arrange to have
your catch sent home for you.
Get a
Taste of Local Flavor
Ketchikan is the "Salmon
Capital of the World," and as you'd expect, the salmon are
plentiful and fresh.
Inside
Passage [Friday
August 18th - Cruising]
Cruising through the Inside Passage is really what has made Alaska
cruising so popular. This trip captures so much of what people love
about Alaska. There are glaciers the size of Rhode Island. Misty
rain forests and ghostly blue fjords. And spirited communities that
celebrate their varied heritage. Be sure to take in every view as
you sail through one of the most beautiful parts of Alaska.
The One
Thing You Don't Want to Miss
The highlight of any cruise
through the Inside Passage has to be Hubbard Glacier. It is one
of the most active glaciers in the area and a great place to
experience the majesty of a glacier up close. Sheets of ice
separate themselves from the ice field in a process known as
"galloping." When the ice finally crashes into the sea, you can
hear a loud cracking sound, similar to a starter pistol. This
process is known as "calving," and the sound echoes for miles.
